ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯಾನಂತರದ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ ನಂದಿಹೋಗುವಂತಹ ಪ್ರಸಂಗ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಉದ್ಭವಿಸಿತ್ತು. ೧೯೭೫ರಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಂದಿನ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಇಂದಿರಾಗಾಂಧಿಯವರು ತುರ್ತುಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೇರಿದ್ದ ಸಂದರ್ಭವದು. ತುರ್ತು ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಕರ್ಮಕಾಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ ತಾಂಡವ, ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವ ಪ್ರೇಮಿ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರರು ಸರಳುಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ ನರಕಯಾತನೆ, ಹಿಂಸೆ-ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯಗಳು, ಪ್ರತಿಪಕ್ಷಗಳ ದಮನ, ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ದಾಳಿ, ಜನತೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಮಾನುಷ ಹಲ್ಲೆ, ಇದೇ ಸಮಯಕ್ಕೆ ದೇಶದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಸಿಡಿದ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆಯ ಕಿಡಿಗಳು, ಮೊಳಗಿದ ಜೆ.ಪಿ. ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯ, ನಂತರದ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎದ್ದು ನಿಂತ ಜನಭಾರತ – ಇವೆಲ್ಲದರ ರಮ್ಯ ಕಥಾಸಂಗಮ. ಭಾರತದ ೧೯೭೫-೭೭ರ ಜನಕ್ರಾಂತಿಯ ಸತ್ಯ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ ಮೈತಳೆದ ಕೆಲವು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಪರಿಶಿಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡ ಬೃಹತ್ ಗ್ರಂಥ.
